Wine Story
Coto de Gomariz es fundado por mi padre: Ricardo Carreiro Ameijeiras (Caco) en los años setenta, cuando consiguió volver a su tierra después de emigrar a Sudamérica como tantos otros gallegos y cumplir un sueño: hacer vinos reconocidos en todo el mundo y devolver a Gomariz el prestigio como pago vitícola histórico. Entre sus logros en el mundo de la viticultura estuvo colaborar activamente en la gestación de la D.O. Ribeiro después de su labor como secretario del Concello de Leiro, donde se fundó la primera cooperativa vitivinícola gallega en 1957, escribiéndose entonces los primeros estatutos que después regularon la D.O. Ribeiro.
Gomariz es conocido como la "Milla de Oro" del Ribeiro. Desde el s. X., es el Coto Vitícola más antiguo de la Península Ibérica y cuenta con unas características excepcionales para el cultivo de la vid. En el año 2000 me impliqué en el proyecto y con la valiosa colaboración del enólogo Xosé Lois Sebio convertimos Coto de Gomariz en la bodega más vanguardista de Galicia; complementado a las viñas viejas familiares, nuevas plantaciones de viñedo con una clara orientación siempre a la máxima calidad y expresión de terruño. Incluyendo en nuestra misión una implicación sin precedentes en el desarrollo de los vinos tintos con crianza. Casi olvidados en el Ribeiro entonces. En 2004 establecimos nuevas formas de cultivo influenciados por las corrientes de viticultura ecológica, aplicando preceptos biodinámicos como, por ejemplo, las teorías de Fukuoka respecto a la conservación de los suelos. Sin llegar a ser certificados, pero orientando la producción al máximo respeto por los ecosistemas biológicos. Mi padre nos deja en 2008. María, mi madre, lo hace en 2012. El nombre fiscal de la bodega ha ido cambiado por motivos familiares de Maria Álvarez Serrano en su fundación a Hros. de María Álvarez Serrano y finalmente, desde 2013 se llama como su “best-seller”: The Flower And The Bee, S.L. En 2009 entran a formar parte del equipo Inma Pazos y junto con Miguel Montoto, que se une poco después, desarrollan un ambicioso proyecto de comercialización. Conocimos a Frank en 2010, que nos visitó en la bodega en su búsqueda de nuevos vinos e historias que contar. Creo que fue nuestro segundo cliente de exportación, por eso le guardamos un gran cariño. Desde entonces nos apoyamos mutuamente para hacer llegar los vinos a Brujas, una ciudad que nunca es un sacrificio visitar-.
Coto de Gomariz was founded by my father: Ricardo Carreiro Ameijeiras (Caco) in the seventies, when he managed to return to his homeland after emigrating to South America like so many other Galicians and fulfill a dream: to make wines that were recognized all over the world and return Gomariz to its prestige as a historic wine-growing area. One of his achievements in the world of viticulture was to collaborate actively in the creation of the Ribeiro D.O. after his work as secretary of the Leiro Council, where the first Galician wine cooperative was founded in 1957, when the first statutes were written that later regulated the Ribeiro D.O.
Gomariz is known as the "Golden Mile" of Ribeiro. Since the 10th century, it has been the oldest wine-growing reserve in the Iberian Peninsula and has exceptional characteristics for vine cultivation. In the year 2000 I got involved in the project and with the valuable collaboration of the oenologist Xosé Lois Sebio we converted Coto de Gomariz into the most avant-garde winery in Galicia; complemented by the old family vineyards, new vineyard plantations with a clear orientation always to the maximum quality and expression of the terroir. Including in our mission an unprecedented involvement in the development of red wines with aging. Almost forgotten in the Ribeiro then. In 2004 we established new forms of cultivation influenced by the currents of organic viticulture, applying biodynamic precepts such as, for example, Fukuoka's theories regarding soil conservation. In 2009 they joined the Inma Pazos team and together with Miguel Montoto, who joined shortly after, they developed an ambitious marketing project. We met Frank in 2010, who visited us at the winery in his search for new wines and stories to tell. I think he was our second export client, so we are very fond of him. Since then we have supported each other to bring the wines to Bruges, a city that is never a sacrifice to visit.
