Wine Story

With a history spanning over 200 years, Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo occupies over 120 ha, and has been listed since the first demarcation of the Douro wine region in 1756, during the Pombaline era.

Talking about the Douro isn't just about a river or a region. It concerns an entire history and local people, many generations of men and women who, over centuries, have built an unforgettable setting and unique way of life in an immense territory, formed by hard soils and very little arable soil.

At Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo there are 41 vineyards plots in total, with completely distinct natural microterroirs.

The wines have an authentic and rare structure, fruity aromas and a high concentration of colour. They reveal an elegant complexity in the aromas tasted in the mouth. With unparalleled balance, they masterfully reflect the exclusivity of the estate's terroir.

Our wines talk about our land, while respecting the present to preserve the future.

Quinta Nova is the first wine estate in the Douro is the first wine estate in the Douro with monovarietal plantation and to open wine tourism facilities, and is one of the most highly rated wine tourism spots in Portugal.

Since 1999 the estate's history has been intensely lived by the Amorim family. Now in its fourth generation, the Amorim family has been linked to the wine trade since 1870, through its first trading activity - producing cork stoppers for the Port Wine Cellars, in Vila Nova de Gaia. It is one of the most prominent family groups in Portugal, and operates in several countries worldwide, in different business sectors. The estate is managed by Luisa Amorim, who has significantly augmented the family's wine business.

With deep cultural awareness, the wines have ancestral roots in Portugal's finest wine regions, including unique places such as the Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in the Douro and the Taboadella in the Dão region.

The unique identity and personality of each vintage has been preserved for over 20 years by Ana Mota, who since 2000 has been making the massal clonal selection of the vines at Quinta Nova and who knows in detail every parcels in our terroir. It is this touch of generosity, this mixutre of tradition and technology that always goes hand in hand with the winemaking of Jorge Alves and Sonia Pereira, an experienced team that guarantees a deep respect for the historical heritage of the Douro valley and the reputation of a great region.

It is this culture that we want to preserve and that is our greatest inspiration for creating great wines in the Douro every day through small gestures that make all the difference.
