Note di degustazione

Refined elegant dry red wine with honed minerality. Moderately intense very bright ruby-red colour with fine tears. Nose that smells of the vineyard and vegetable garden, with ripe green peppers and dry twigs, small red fruits and fresh raw mushrooms, freshly sliced sage and bay leaf. The taste is drenched in mineral balance, in which the velvet tannins carry the wine and the over-ripe acids protect the wine into the long elegant aftertaste. Great glass of wine with gently stewed root vegetables or wild mushrooms with garlic and herbs; also with noble feathered game like partridge. Serving temperature: 16°C

Wine Story

Born in 1979, Franz grew up on his parents’ wine estate in central Burgenland, only a few kilometres from the lake, close enough to the wine. In Horitschon he not only learned the art of winemaking from his father, but in doing so also discovered his great passion. After graduating from oenology school in Klosterneuburg, he completed some internships abroad. In 2000, having come closer to wine, he sought the geographic proximity and took over as oenological and organizational director of the Balf estate near Sopron. In doing this, he continued his father´s project, who already in 1997 had bought vineyards in the small village of Balf, close to the Austrian border.
