Fruity red wine with distinctive personality. Moderately intense brilliant ruby colour with fine tears. Sophisticated nose onset with small red fruits and plenty of natural mineral accents, and very interesting evolution. Very fine texture, flawless and pure as a mirror of its vineyard. Elegant acidity and velvety tannins with again loads of fruit and minerals in the finale. Sublime glass of wine to enjoy on its own, or with delicate pinkish red slow-cooked meat. Also possible with grilled sea fish, vegetables gratin and fresh cheeses. Preferably decant briefly before drinking. Serving temperature: 14°C.
Born in 1979, Franz grew up on his parents’ wine estate in central Burgenland, only a few kilometres from the lake, close enough to the wine. In Horitschon he not only learned the art of winemaking from his father, but in doing so also discovered his great passion. After graduating from oenology school in Klosterneuburg, he completed some internships abroad. In 2000, having come closer to wine, he sought the geographic proximity and took over as oenological and organizational director of the Balf estate near Sopron. In doing this, he continued his father´s project, who already in 1997 had bought vineyards in the small village of Balf, close to the Austrian border.
